  • Are Beer and Wine Safer Than Liquor? No. Alcohol is alcohol. It can cause you problems no matter how you consume it. One 12-ounce bottle of beer or a 5-ounce glass of wine (about a half cup) has as much alcohol as a 1.5-ounce shot of liquor.
  • Eight young people a day die in alcohol-related crashes.
  • When an individual has a blood alcohol level of .3%, they will most likely be on the verge of unconsciousness and could possibly be comatose. When a person has a blood alcohol level of .4% or above, death is possible.
  • Alcohol has been known to increase digestion, but this may be due to its relaxing effect, when a person has a couple of drinks before a meal. In higher "doses", alcohol can cause gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), which is one of the reasons that an individual may experience heartburn and nausea the day after binge drinking; heavy drinking on a continuous basis can lead to stomach ulceration.
